Home Appliances 2026: AI, Chinese Brands & the Global South

The home appliance market is slowing (1.4% growth in 2025), but 2026 brings clear tectonic shifts. 1. AI is the new default. Premium brands (Miele, Siemens, Samsung) now showcase coordinated AI ecosystems where appliances anticipate user needs without constant input. 2. Chinese brands go premium. In H1 2025, Chinese manufacturers captured 40.1% of global SDA and 23.5% of MDA market share—driven by innovation, not just price. 3. Global South drives volume. Eight of the top 10 growth markets are in the Global South, expanding at 3.2–15.2%—far above the global average. 4. Hygiene sells. Vacuum cleaners, washing machines, and dishwashers grew 6% in H1 2025 as health remains a top consumer priority. 5. Sustainability is table stakes. Eco-modes, water-saving tech, and energy efficiency are non-negotiable for competitive brands. 6. Design makes a comeback. Earthy palettes (olive, mocha, taupe) and jewel tones (deep red, blue) are driving kitchen aesthetics. 7. HVAC is the new frontier. Samsung's €1.5B acquisition of FläktGroup and LG's 2030 HVAC vision signal a major industry pivot. Bottom line: Slower growth, but clear winners—brands that nail AI, hygiene, sustainability, and design will capture the most value.
